Daniel Craig may star in five more James Bond movies

Profiles

Movies Hollywood James Bond Casino Royale News News Entertainment News

Daniel Craig's licence to kill is going to continue for some time yet, if the powers that be get their way.

Numerous press sources globally are now reporting that Bond producer Michael G Wilson wishes Craig, currently shooting the latest 007 flick, Skyfall, to star in at least five more Bond movies.

Craig, 43, has previously starred as 007 in 2006's Casino Royale, and the less popular Quantum of Solace - 2008.

Wilson is set to discuss a "multi-million pound deal to become the longest serving 007 of all time" with Craig once filming is completed on Skyfall.

Roger Moore is currently the actor who has starred in the majority of Bond films. He played the 007 role in seven of the super spy flicks between 1973 and 1985. Sean Connery has also played Bond seven times, however the Thunderball remake Never Say Never Again was made by an independent production company, not by Bond foundation Eon Productions.

"Daniel's been a terrific Bond, a superb actor and a terrific man. The fans love him and I don't think there's a better actor to play the part," Wilson, who co-produces the franchise with stepsister Barbara Broccoli, told the media.

"Filming has gone very well so far and I'd love Daniel to surpass Roger's record and do eight pictures," he said.

"Daniel's been an absolute pleasure to be around because he takes the role so seriously. There's really no one more passionate about making these films work than him - he's a filmmaker's dream."

He elaborated: "A lot of people have said Daniel's been their favourite Bond since Sean Connery and I can't argue with them. He's doing a great job."

Wilson also advised that the next Bond outing will take us back to the Connery era.

He said: "The director Sam Mendes and Daniel are taking it back to a 60s feel - more Sean.

"I think that's what the fans wanted," he added.

"There's a magical Goldfinger feel surrounding it all. It's all very exciting. I can't wait for people to see the movie because I think we're making a very special Bond."

We're also learned that "big plans" are on the way to mark the Bond films' 50th anniversary in 2012, including "an extravaganza" featuring former Bonds: Connery, George Lazenby, Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Craig.

Wilson teased: "We'd really like to get all six together. We're trying to find a way for fans to celebrate with us because they've been the reason the Bond films have been the success they have."

Craig was directly involved in getting Mendes on board as director.

"He's English, he's Cambridge-educated, he's smart," Craig told the magazine. "He's lived with Bond all his life, he grew up with Bond the way I did."

"I said to him, 'We have to do this together, we have exactly the same reference points, we both like the same Bond movies and we both like the same bits in the same Bond movies we like."

Craig added: "We sat down and we just rabbited for hours about Live and Let Die or From Russia with Love, and talked about little scenes that we knew from them.

"That's how we started talking about it. That's what we tried to instil in the script. He's been working his arse off to tie all these things together so they make sense - in a Bond way."

Skyfall is due for release in late 2012.

See you at the movies.

James Bond in bed again with Virgin Atlantic; Virgin back after Casino Royale - 21st November 2011

James Bond is flying again with Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic, after the airline inked a new sponsorship deal for the highly anticipated 007 movie Skyfall.

Years again 007 preferred British Airways but things can change over time, and when the price is right.

Daniel Craig is understood to have excited Branson's Virgin in Casino Royale, and that's when the first Virgin Atlantic deal with the Bond franchise came to pass.

Not only did Bond pick up a Virgin Atlantic frequent flyer card, but Branson snatched a brief cameo in that first Daniel Craig 007 film.

Some viewers may recall the scene as one of Bond's enemies enters Miami Airport to plant a bomb on a 'Skyfleet' plane.

The villain walks through the security gate on the left, while a passenger standing arms-spread on the right is sneaky Branson.

James Bond 007 News: Daniel Craig - 'Bond 23 will be better than Casino Royale', by Greg Tingle - 30th July 2011

James Bond Daniel Craig Sony MGM Activision Hollywood Movies Games Casino Brands Media Man

James Bond actor Daniel Craig has said that he believes the next Bond film could be better than Casino Royale. Speaking to his Cowboys and Aliens director Jon Favreau about the forthcoming Bond movie, Craig was full of praise for the franchise's new director Sam Mendes, saying:

It's a great choice because Sam has a fervour and energy to really direct a Bond movie with a capital B. He's read every book and just soaked up everything about it. I read the script the other day and I'm more excited about this than I was about Casino.

Mendes and Craig have worked together before on gangster drama Road To Perdition.

The director and star of Cowboys and Aliens also revealed that comedies such as Austin Powers and Team America keep them on their toes, with Craig admitting:
We had a bell on set that was 'we can't go down this road, it's too Austin Powers'. It's this modernist thing where the joke has been killed because now you can't wink at it.

Favreau then compared the ever-knowing irony to "a bird flying in smaller and smaller circles until it flies up its own ass".

It was recently announced that Naomie Harris will star as Miss Moneypenny in the latest outing for Ian Fleming's 007.

Bond 23 is due for release in the UK on October 26, 2012.

Stars Announced for Next Bond Film...

After being held back for years by significant financial dramas at MGM Studios, the 23rd James Bond film has begun casting in earnest, with Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennesboth confirmed to appear, according to The Daily Mail. Bardem, who won an Academy Award in 2008 for his villainous turn in “No Country for Old Men,” has been previously quoted by The Los Angeles Times as saying that he was in talks to play the nemesis of Daniel Craig’s 007. Fiennes’s role was not specified. Directed by Sam Mendes and partly financed by Sony, the film is slated for release on Nov. 9, 2012, and is to begin shooting this year.

Bond Gets A New Drink...

New James Bond author has created a tipple for fans of the suave superspy to sip as they read his new book, Carte Blanche.

Bestselling writer Jeffery Deaver is getting rave reviews for the book and he mixed up the new Bond cocktail during an appearance on MSNBC's Dylan Rattigan Show on Friday.

The drink, dubbed The Carte Blanche, features a double shot of Crown Royal, a half measure of triple sec, two dashes of bitter and a twist of orange peel.

Bond's traditional tipple has always been a Martini, "shaken not stirred."

Naomie's Licence To Thrill...

Miss Moneypenny, 007's tart-tongued, flirtatious foil, is returning to the James Bond movies in the shape of Naomie Harris. The actress met with Sam Mendes, director of Bond 23, earlier this year and is now in the final stages of negotiations to play the long-running Bond girl -- although, strictly speaking, Moneypenny isn't a Bond girl at all; she's the assistant to Bond's boss, M. Naomie made her name in Danny Boyle's film 28 Days Later, but is known from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. She did her best work in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, The First Grader (an enjoyable low-budget recent release) and Danny Boyle's National Theatre production of Frankenstein, in which she played the leading lady opposite Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller. The actress is poised to appear alongside Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes and Judi Dench when filming begins later this year. The Moneypenny character, who holds the rank of Lieutenant RN, hasn't been seen in a Bond picture since Samantha Bond played her in Die Another Day back in 2002, when she appeared with Pierce Brosnan.

New James Bond 'GoldenEye' Game To Debut This Month...

Activision is reloading the golden gun to take another shot at reviving a James Bond video game relic.

The game publisher plans to unveil a new 007 shooter based on the 16-year-old Pierce Brosnan flick, "GoldenEye," at a news conference later this month, said a spokeswoman helping organize the Activision event.

The formal announcement is to take place on July 20 in San Diego at the annual Comic-Con expo. There, Activision will also show upcoming games in the "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" series.

Activision Publishing registered Web domains last month suggesting the title of the new Bond game may be "GoldenEye 007: Reloaded."

The next Bond film, which is codenamed Bond 23, is scheduled to open in theaters on November 9, 2012.

"GoldenEye" was neither the highest grossing nor the most memorable Bond movie. But the "GoldenEye 007" game resonates with many people, even today.

In the late '90s, the four-player shooting game was part of a nightly ritual at many college dormitories and after-school meet-ups.

Rare, which created "Donkey Kong Country" and was later acquired by Microsoft, developed the cult classic, and Nintendo published it exclusively for the Nintendo 64 console.

Rare's and Nintendo's divorce, along with Activision becoming the exclusive rights holder to develop Bond games, has spun an elaborate web that has left the original "GoldenEye 007" landlocked. Nintendo and Microsoft have been unable to come to terms on how to redistribute the game.

Rare's "Perfect Dark," a futuristic spy franchise, was billed as the spiritual successor to "GoldenEye." Several "GoldenEye" designers left Rare to form a studio called Free Radical Design, which develops the "TimeSplitters" games.

But the "GoldenEye" name, story and characters hold a special place in many gamers' hearts. Seeing that opportunity, Activision remade the game and released "007: GoldenEye" for Nintendo's Wii in November. Developer Eurocom replaced Brosnan's likeness with that of Daniel Craig, the current Bond actor.

The Wii is not typically associated with first-person shooter games, and the "GoldenEye" reboot didn't necessarily break that mold. But Eurocom has said it was satisfied with the sales.

Treyarch developed a recent Bond game, based on the "Quantum of Solace" film. Most recently, it made "Call of Duty: Black Ops." Treyarch was not tapped to make the upcoming "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3," and it has not said what its next project will be.

Game industry watchers suggest the new "GoldenEye" will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, two systems where shooting games have thrived.

James Bond: Naomie Harris Finds Next Bond Movie Special

Actress Naomie Harris thinks the 23rd installment of the James Bond movies will have a "very special" feeling to it. The British actress is apparently a top contender for a leading role in the forthcoming Sam Mendes directed "James Bond" movie, which sees Daniel Craig reprise his role as the iconic British spy. "It would be great to be part of Bond but nothing is confirmed yet. Sam Mendes is an amazing director and a really, really lovely man as well. He's got brilliant ideas. From meeting them, I think it's going to be a very special Bond," contactmusic.com quoted the 34-year-old as saying. Harris is best known for her role as Selena in "28 Days Later" and Tia Dalma in the second and third series of " Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.

'Casino Royale' Director: 'Quantum of Solace' a 'Mess', by Greg Tingle - 20th June 2011

James Bond 23 Will Be Better Than Quantum of Solace...

With comic book based movie Green Lantern currently at the box office, its director, Martin Campbell, is taking the opportunity to get some three-year-old gripes off his chest. The director is credited with giving the James Bond franchise the reboot it needed with 2006’s Casino Royale starring Daniel Craig, but he says the movie’s sequel, 2008's Quantum of Solace, didn’t quite keep the momentum going. “Oh, I thought it was lousy,” Campbell tells CraveOnline. “And hopefully this next one will be terrific. Sam Mendes is directing it and I’m sure it’ll be terrific.” We do hope that Mendes (Revolutionary Road) lives up to Martin’s expectations on Bond 23, because it seems he’ll probably hear about it later. “I just thought the story was pretty uninteresting,” Campbell goes on to say about Quantum of Solace. “I didn’t think the action was related to the characters. I just thought overall it was a bit of a mess really.” The currently untitled Bond 23 is slated for release next year, now that MGM has sorted out many of their previous financial challenges, a key reason for the delay of the Bond film.

The New Bond Girl?...

Pirates Of The Caribbean star Naomie Harris has confirmed she is in the running for the role of a sexy and smart Bond girl in the next 007 movie. The British actress, 34, was reported to have been in talks with filmmakers to star in the long-delayed 23rd film. Harris told the press she had no issues with a Bond girl role, despite demanding a body double for sex scenes in Miami Vice and telling Michael Mann, the director of the 2006 film, she would not do nudity. "What makes them (Bond movies) work is that they are responsive to the times," she said. "(Former Bond girl) Eva Green's character in Casino Royale was not scantily clad. She was an intelligent, strong, modern woman. "The older idea of the Bond movie is in the past. Now it appeals to all generations, ages and sexes." She said while "nothing is confirmed", she would "love to be part of the Bond movies". Asked about her views on female nudity in films, the actress added: "It's the objectification that I don't like. I didn't sign up to be a stripper. "I'm very anti the pressure that is put on women to take their clothes off." Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace star Daniel Craig is returning to star in the as-yet untitled Bond adventure, directed by Sam Mendes, which is due for release next year. Media Man is the go-to man for Australian - Fijian actor and pro wrestler, John "Vulcan" Seru, who played 'Gabor' in James Bond flick 'The World Is Not Enough'. Seru also played 'Kiwi Steve' on a number of recent Underbelly episodes, often featured in scenes opposite Australian heartthrob and Cleo Bachelor Of The Year, Firass Dirani. Seru is tipped to attend the action packed upcoming WWE Australian tour with Media Man and friends. Dirani advised the Underbelly connection helped him get into Hollywood where he was cast into The Killer Elite, staring Robert De Niro. Many movie buffs and gambling fans will recall that De Niro played Sam "Ace" Rothstein in Casino, a 1995 acclaimed crime drama film directed by Martin Scorsese.

James Bond News: New Bondi Girl?: Naomie Harris

Profiles

James Bond Daniel Craig Movies Hollywood

Naomie Harris has confirmed she is in the running to star opposite Daniel Craig in the next 007 film, insisting she "would love to" become the next Bond girl.

Rumours emerged last week linking the British actress to a part in the upcoming 23rd James Bond movie, which will see Craig step into the superspy role for a third time.

Harris has now opened up about the speculation, revealing she has been in talks with movie bosses, but has yet to sign a deal.

She tells Britain's Radio Times, "Nothing is confirmed, but I would love to be part of the Bond movies."

The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest star also reveals her admiration for the latest 007 films, because they portray Bond girls as more than just sex symbols.

She adds, "What makes them (Bond movies) work is that they are responsive to the times. Eva Green's character in Casino Royale was not scantily clad. She was an intelligent, strong, modern woman. The older idea of the Bond movie is in the past. Now it appeals to all generations, ages and sexes..."

However, Harris is adamant that if she gets the part, she won't be taking her clothes off onscreen: "It's the objectification that I don't like. I didn't sign up to be a stripper... I'm very anti the pressure that is put on women to take their clothes off."

The currently untitled Bond 23, to be directed by Sam Mendes, is slated for release next year.
